Micro-morphological analysis of foliar uptake and retention of airborne particulate matter (PM)-bound toxic metals: implications for their phytoremediation

چکیده

While airborne particulate matter (PM) pollution is a serious problem for urban environments, it can be reduced through uptake by plant leaves. In this study, we investigated and compared the of PM-bound toxic metals different species. Enrichment factor (EF) correlation analyses across sample types indicated anthropogenic origins these with source signatures. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) both leaf surfaces (adaxial abaxial) suggested that micro-morphological properties surface (e.g. stomata, trichomes, epicuticular wax, epidermal appendages) control accumulation PM associated in Senna siamea leaves showed most variation as well maximum concentration metals. It was found foliar affected morphological characteristics. Our results imply speciation strategies used to help decrease pollution.

Impairment of mitochondrial function by particulate matter (PM) and their toxic components: implications for PM-induced cardiovascular and lung disease.

Increasing evidence suggests that reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress are involved in PM-mediated lung and cardiovascular injury. The physical characteristics and the chemical composition of particulate matter (PM) play a key role in ROS generation in vitro and in vivo. The mitochondria are major subcellular targets for PM as well as a source of ROS production. ROS production is ...

Levels of Fine Particulate Matter Bound Trace Metals in Air of Glass Industrial Area; Firozabad

The present study deals with sequential extraction of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) bound trace metals in an industrial area of Firozabad, India. During the study period, daily PM2.5 concentration ranged between 73.49 μg/m3 and 113.26 μg/m3 with poor air quality index of 196.37. In the present study, Ca recorded the highest while Co had the lowest concentration among all analysed metals. Mn, ...

Levels of PM10 and its Chemical Composition in the Atmosphere of the City of Isfahan

Airborne particulate matter (PM10 ) was collected from the atmosphere of the city of Isfahan. The concentration of heavy metals and anions associated with airborne particulate matter were determined using atomic absorption spectrometric and ion chromatographic techniques. A comparison was made between the variation in the concentration of PM10 and that for heavy metals and...

Hormesis for fine particulate matter (PM 2.5).

The hypothesis of hormesis - that substances that harm health at high exposures can reduce risks below background at low exposures, e.g., if they activate defenses without overwhelming them - becomes important for practical policy making if it holds for regulated substances. Recently, the U.S. EPA concluded that reductions in ambient concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in air caus...
